He lived with his parents and siblings in Dobson Township, Surry County until around 1935 when the family relocated to the Rock Creek Township of Guilford County, NC. He was married to Edna Earle Spence on May 28, 1950, in Alamance County, NC at his sister, Eva Edwards', house. Edna Earle was born on November 7, 1932, in Brunswick County, Virginia. In 1957, Floyd and Edna Earle were living on Pomona Rd in Greensboro, NC. He was a salesman at Pet Dairy Products. Around 1968 the family moved to Taylors, South Carolina and later moved to Greer, Greenville County, SC. Edna Early passed away on June 29, 1984, in Greer, and was buried in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Greer. Around 1985, he was married to Peggy Thomas Newnam. They were separated before his death. Floyd passed away on December 8, 1989, in Greer, and was also buried at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.

Obituary 9 Dec 1989 Floyd Monroe Dory Sr., 59, of 110 Calvary St., died Dec. 8, 1989, at Greenville Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. He was a retired employee of JFG Co. of Knoxville, Tenn., and was a member of Covenant United Methodist Church. Surviving are a daughter, Kim Doby of Greer; a son, Floy Monroe Doby Jr. of Spartanburg; three brothers, Cletus Doby of McLeansville, N.C., Claude Doby and Marley Doby, both of Burlington, N.C.; and a sister, Beulah Andrews of Burlington. Services: 2 p.m. Sunday at The Wood Mortuary with burial in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Visitation: 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the mortuary. Memorials may be made to Covenant United Methodist Church Building Fund, 2006 Old Spartanburg Road, Greer, S.C., 29650.
