Synopsis: The Ancestors and Descendants of William Pinkney Doby is the first book in the Doby Genealogy Series: A History of the Doby-Dobie-Dobey Family in the United States, and documents the ancestors and descendants of William Pinkney Doby. William, son of Thomas William Doby and Edith Winkler, was born in 1854 in Davidson County, North Carolina and died in 1938 in Surry County, North Carolina. He married Martha Gentry, daughter of Jonathan James Gentry and Elizabeth Brannock. Martha was born in 1858 in Surry County, North Carolina and died in 1949, also in Surry County. They were farmers and lived their entire life near Dobson in Surry County, and had a total of nine children:

Chapter 1, Ancestors of William Pinkney Doby, tells the story of the early Doby family, starting in the mid-1600s in Virginia and continues down the family tree to William's father. The children of each ancestor are listed along with a brief biography and a list of their children.

Chapter 2, The Early Dobys in Davidson County, NC, describes the process used to determine the parent/child relationships of the Doby children counted on the 1830 United States Census. There are no records that document the parents of these 19 children, and for the 25 years that the author has been researching the Doby family, this has been a mystery, until now.

Chapter 3, Descendants of William Pinkney Doby, provides an NGSQ formatted list of the seven generations of known descendants of William and Martha. When known, the birth, marriage, death, and burial details are listed along with pictures, when provided by the family.
