    Obituary 8 Apr 2017
Cletus Elbert Doby, affectionately known as "The Train Man," went peacefully home to be with the Lord on Friday, March 31, 2017 with his loving wife by his side. A funeral service was held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at the Forbis and Dick North Elm Street Chapel in Greensboro. Cletus was born in Surry County to the late William Thurman [note: his father's name was William Thomas] and Maud Lee Fulk Doby. He worked hard as a painter and became the owner and operator of Cletus Doby Painting service. He was most recognized as "The Train Man" because he could make the sound of a train whistle with his mouth without benefit of a wooden whistle. Wherever he was, he was known to entertain people of all ages with his talent. Cletus was a good man who was always happy and friendly toward others. He never met a stranger and he was fond of the children whom he met. He enjoyed helping others whenever he could and he always considered the welfare of others. Cletus was a good Christian man who was most happy when he was working in his church. As a long-time member of Towe Memorial Baptist Church, he loved his church family. He loved the Lord and was always faithful to do His work in all things. Cletus is preceded in death by his parents and his seven brothers and three sisters. Those who are left to cherish his memory are his wife, Rose Marie Doby and step-daughters Angela Morene and Lori Grant and husband Michael. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Flowers are most welcome during this time. However, if you would like to honor Cletus with a memorial donation, please consider a gift to Towe Memorial Baptist Church, 6268 Abernathy Road, Whitsett, NC 27377. Forbis and Dick North Elm Street Chapel is serving the Doby family and online condolences may be offered at www.forbisanddick.com.

I visited Clete on November 2, 2015. While there, I got him to do "the train". He had advanced Alzheimer's, but that didn't keep him from showing off.
