    Obituary James Herman Stewart, 88 of Gastonia, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2024 at the Robin Johnson Hospice House in Dallas, NC surrounded by his loving family.

    A dedicated husband, father, and papa, Jim graduated with Honors from Williams High School in Burlington, NC class of 1954. He served in the Army Reserves. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Gastonia where he was a part of the sound and recording team for over 40 years. He loved watching and recording his Atlanta Braves and UNC Tar Heels. He was an excellent bridge player where he played for decades with friends. He enjoyed bowling and golf especially with friend Richard Reinhardt and his grandson. His greatest joy was spending time with his five grandchildren. Jim worked as Plant Administrative Manager for Burlington Industries for 46 years and only called out sick 1 day. He loved spending vacations in Charleston, SC and anything that fulfilled his sweet tooth cravings. In 1965, he was named the Dublin, VA “Young Man of the Year” and was presented the Jaycee Distinguished Service Award.

    Jim is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Martha Campbell Stewart; three sons, Keith and wife Heather of Charlotte, Kevin and wife Susan of Gastonia, Stacy and wife Kelly of Clayton, Georgia.; five grandchildren, James, Matthew, Anna Grace, Sydney, and Braden. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Bessie Mae Stewart of Burlington, NC and her three sons, Jim and wife Kathy, Jerry and wife Brenda, John and wife Michelle. He is preceded in death by his father Elton and mother Gladys of Burlington, NC, and his brother Frank Douglas of Burlington, NC.

    The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 2:45 pm on Saturday, May 25, 2024 at McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia on New Hope Road. A graveside service will follow at 3:00 pm at Gaston Memorial Park near the Singing Tower.
