    Biography Floyd Richard Edmonds was born on January 24, 1907, in Surry County, North Carolina, to Frank Thomas Edmonds and Mary Lela (Doby) Edmonds. She married Dessie Rena Lemons on November 26, 1932, in Danville, Virginia. Dessie was born on December 4, 1910, in Franklin County, Virginia, to Charles William Lemons and Eula Mae (Nolen) Lemons. By 1937, Floyd and Dessie had relocated to Burlington, Alamance County, NC. Floyd enlisted in the United States Army on December 6, 1942, at Camp Croft in Spartanburg, South Carolina. He served in the 301st Infantry Regiment, 94th Infantry Division in Europe during World War II. He was killed in action January 21, 1945, and was buried at the Ardennes American Cemetery and Memorial in Neuville-en-Condroz, Arrondissement de Liège, Liège, Belgium. He was awarded the Purple Heart. Dessie married a second time to William Frank Watson. She passed away on June 21, 1993, in Burlington, and was buried at Alamance Memorial Park in Burlington.
