    Biography James Ordra Doby was born on April 13, 1926 in Rockford, Surry County, North Carolina, to Richard "Dick" Green Doby and Pearl Jane (Griffin) Doby. They family lived in Dobson Township in Surry County. Sometime before the 1940 Census, they relocated to Jonesboro Township, Lee County, NC. James registered for the World War II Draft in Jonesboro, Lee County, in 1944. He enlisted in the United States Army on February 11, 1946, in Kokomo, Howard County, Indiana and was discharged on August 14, 1947. On August 2, 1947, he married Noel Frances Simpson in Indiana. Noel Frances Simpson was born in Nashville, Tennessee, to John Simpson and Elizabeth (Monta) Simpson. On the 1950 Census, James and Noel lived with his parents and siblings in Carthage, Moore County, NC. Sometime before 1956, James married Audrey Marie Eanes. Audrey was born in Henry County, Virginia, to Charlie and Lena Eanes. James passed away on February 13, 1993, in Winston-Salem, Forsyth County, NC, and was buried in Eastlawn Gardens of Memory in Kernersville, Forsyth County.

    Mr. James Ordra Doby, 66, of 108-A Farmwood Dr., died Saturday, February 13, 1993, at Forsyth Memorial Hospital. Mr. Doby was born in Surry County, the son of Richard Green and Pearl Griffin Doby. He was a WWII Army veteran, having been awarded the Purple Heart with three clusters, and was retired from Kernersville Lumber Co. Mr. Doby attended Victory Baptist Church in Greensboro. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Audrey Eanes Doby, of the home; three sons, Terry Doby, of the home, James Michael (Mike) Doby, High Point, and John Ordra Doby, Baltimore, Md.; one brother, George V. Doby, Sanford; and four grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Hayworth-Miller-Cain Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Paul Doby and Rev. Jimmy Dillon with interment in the Eastlawn Gardens of Memory with full military honors. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and at other time at the home of his son, Mike Doby, 4653 Sandy Camp Rd., High Point, N.C. (Sandy Ridge Community).
