  Biography	Little is known about Hugh Doby. The only record, anywhere in the United States for him is his marriage record to Anne Doby, daughter of Alsey and Mary (Snead) Doby. In 1907, when some of Alsey's descendants applied to the Cherokee Nation, Anne's last name was Mills, implying that Hugh had passed away, and since he is not listed on any census after his marriage in 1841, it suggests that he passed away before 1850. There are no males in the North Carolina branch of the Dobys that could be his father. In the 1820s there was a Doby family from the South Carolina branch living in Rowan County, NC. It's possible that Hugh was part of that family.
