    Biography Martha Christine Doby was born on June 30, 1924, in Rockford, Surry County, North Carolina, to Walter Henry Doby and Ollie Francis (Parker) Doby. On the 1930 Census, she lived with her parents and siblings in Tunstall Township, Pittsylvania County, Virginia. On the 1940 Census, she lived with her parents and siblings in Clarksville Township, Davie County, NC. She was married to William Harold Linville on August 25, 1948, in Guilford County, North Carolina. On the 1950 Census, Martha and William lived in Winston-Salem, Forsyth County, NC. William was born on December 3, 1917, in Hanes, Forsyth County, to John Saunder Linville and Maude Lee Bennett. Martha and William were divorced on July 12, 1965, in Forsyth County. Between 1965 and 1973 she was married to a Mr. Mitchell and then on April 10, 1973, she married Jack Milton Cobb in Winston-Salem, Forsyth County, NC. William passed away on September 18, 1994, in Salisbury, Rowan County, NC, and was buried in Forsyth Memorial Garden, Winston-Salem, Forsyth County. Jack passed away on September 24, 1998, in Winston-Salem and was buried in Forsyth Memorial Park. Martha passed away on July 16, 2012, in Statesville, Iredell County, NC, and was also buried at Forsyth Memorial Park.

    Christine Doby Cobb, 88, of Winston-Salem, passed away Friday, July 13, 2012 at Autumn Care of Statesville. She was born June 30, 1924 in Surry County to Walter Henry and Ollie Frances Parker Doby. Mrs. Cobb was a hard worker and was retired from Western Electric. She was an avid gardener and grew the best vegetables and loved her roses. She loved her grandchild and great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack M. Cobb; three brothers, Dan, Garnet and Perry Doby; and two sisters, Carolyn Taylor and Dorothy Crowson. Surviving is one son, Melvin Linville and wife Gerry of Georgia; two stepsons, Jack and James Cobb also of Georgia; a grandson, John Linville and wife Kris of Mebane; three great grandchildren, Jane, Sarah and John Jr.; two sisters, Marie Elmore and Shirley Chapman; and a brother, J.D. Doby. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 16 at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, July 15 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
