On the 1850 and 1860 Census, they were living in Davidson County. He was a farmer. He enlisted in the North Carolina Infantry on 8 May 1862 and served in the Civil War. He was discharged on 14 Apr 1864 as a result of a wound.
By the 1870 Census, Daniel and the family had relocated to Albemarle, Stanly County, NC. He was a farmer. In 1874 they sold their land in Stanly County and moved back to Davidson sometime before the 1880 Census. On the 1880 Census, he was a miller.
