    Biography Eva Melvina Doby was born on September 29, 1907, in Mount Airy, Surry County, North Carolina to William "Billie" Thomas Doby and Maude Lee Fulk. On the 1910 Census she was 3 years old and lived with her parents and brother in Dobson Township, Surry County. On the 1920 Census she was 12 years old and lived with her parents and siblings in Dobson Township. She had attended school and was able to read and write. She worked on the family farm. On the 1930 Census she was 22 years old and lived with her parents and siblings in Dobson. She was the first of her siblings to wed. At the age of 25, she married William M Edwards on 15 Oct 1932 in Danville, Virginia. William was born on May 24, 1903, in Concord, Cabarrus County, NC, to William John Edwards and Mary Ellen Crisco. In 1935, Eva and William were living in Burlington, Alamance County, NC. On the 1940 Census she was 34 years old and lived with her husband and two sons in the "North and West" Township of Burlington. On the 1950 Census she was 44 years old and lived on Pine Street in Burlington, with her husband, three children, and her brother Claude. Her occupation was "inspector" in the "hosiery mill" industry. William passed away on October 7, 1974, in Burlington. Eva passed away on February 10, 1987, in Burlington. Both were buried in Alamance Memorial Park in Burlington.

    Obituary Mrs. Eva Doby Edwards, 79, of 605 Pine St. died Tuesday in the Skilled Nursing Division of Alamance Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illnes. Mrs. Edwards was a native of Surry County and was a retired textile employee. She was a member of Front Street Christian Church. The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington by the Rev. Jim Warren and the Rev. Stanley Gibson. burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park. Surviving are a daughter, Ms. Ellen Edwards of the home; two sons, William Forrest Edwards of Winston-Salem and Donnie F. Edwards of Graham; a sister, Mrs. Buelah Andrews of Whitsett; five brothers, Troy Doby of Whitsett, Claude Doby of Elon College, Marley Doby of Burlington, Cletus Doby of McLeansville and Floyd Doby of Greer, S.C.; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Alamance, 1713 Edgewood Ave., Burlington, N.C., 27215. The family will receive visitors from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington and at other times at the home.
