    Biography George Voliney Doby was born on March 24, 1924, in Rockford, Surry County, North Carolina, to Richard "Dick" Green Doby and Pearl Jane (Griffin) Doby. On the 1930 Census, he lived with his parents and siblings in Dobson Township, Surry County, NC. On the 1940 Census, he lived with his parents and siblings in Jonesboro Township, Lee County, NC. He enlisted in the United States Army on February 4, 1942, at Fort Bragg, NC, and was discharged on December 17, 1945. He was married to Mary Alice Burkhead around 1946. Mary was born on November 26, 1921, in Sanford, Lee County, to Archie Carl Burkhead and Vannie Beulah Moffitt. She passed away on May 5, 1999, in Sanford. George passed away on July 18, 1999, in Pinehurst, Moore County, NC. Both were buried in Buffalo Cemetery in Sanford.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Northview United Church of Christ. Burial in Buffalo Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.
