    Biography Jessie Loree Doby was born on September 14, 1918, in Surry County, North Carolina to Charlie Edgar "Manny" Doby and Mary Etta (Badgett) Doby. On the 1920-1940 Census reports, she lived with her parents and siblings in Dobson Township, Surry County. She was married after the 1940 Census to Howard Dallas Matthews. Howard was born on May 19, 1915, in Yadkin County, NC, to Thomas Evan Matthews and Mary Lillie (Hobson) Matthews. Howard passed away on November 25, 1986, in East Bend, Yadkin County. Jessie passed away on February 10, 2010, in Yadkinville, Yadkin County. Both were buried in Union Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Yadkinville.

    Jessie Doby Matthews, 91, of East Bend, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2010. She was born in Surry County on September 14, 1918 to Edgar and Mary Etta Badgett Doby. Mrs. Matthews was a member of Union Grove Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Matthews; two sisters, Josie Atkins and Grace Culler; and three brothers, Curvy Doby, Alonza Doby and George Doby. Surviving are a son, Gwyn (Susan) Matthews of East Bend; a daughter, Kim (Eddie Buff) Matthews of East Bend; one sister, Edna Corder of Mt. Airy; one brother, Jack Doby of Dobson; one grandchild, Lane Matthews of East Bend; two step-grandchildren, Chip (Tammy) Wilson and Andy Wilson; and three step-great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be conducted on Friday, Feb. 12, at 3 p.m. at the Huff Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kenny Gooden and the Rev. Jim Murphy officiating. The family will receive friends Friday, Feb. 12, from 1 - 2 p.m. prior to the Funeral Service. Burial will follow in the Union Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
