    Mary Lela Doby was born on April 11, 1811, in Surry County, North Carolina, to William Pinkney Doby and Martha (Gentry) Doby. She lived with her parents in Dobson, Surry County. She was married to Frank Thomas Edmonds on January 14, 1906, in Dobson. Frank was born on March 13, 1881, in Surry County, to Thomas J. Edmonds and Susan Ann Davis. Frank and Lela lived in Dobson until sometime before the 1930 Census, when they had moved to Tunstall, Pittsylvania County, Virginia, then by 1940, they had relocated to Burlington, Alamance County, NC. Frank passed away on April 1, 1937, in Burlington. Lela was born on August 15, 1956, in Burlington. Both were buried at New Home Church of Christ Cemetery in Dobson.

    Obituary Mrs. Lela Doby Edmonds, 75, of Burlington, died in a local hospital yesterday at 9 p.m. She had been in failing health for several years. She was a native of Surry County and was a charter member of the First Church of Christ Disciples of Burlington. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Margie Coe and Mrs. Gladys Stewart, both of Burlington; three sons, R. Gurnie Edmonds of Shawmut, Alabama, Rufus F. Edmonds of San Mateo, California, William Hay Edmonds of Graham; four brothers, C. E. Doby of Route 2, Dobson, R. G. Doby of Jonesboro, R. L. Doby of Harmony, and eight grandchildren. Final rites will be held at Rich and Thompson Funeral Chapel here Saturday at 11 a.m. The Rev. R. V. Hope and the Rev. Paul Southard will officiate. Burial will be at the cemetery of the New Home Church of Christ Disciples near Mount Airy.
