    Biography William Pinkney Doby was born on November 15, 1898, in Surry County, NC to Robert Lee Doby and Nancy Regina (Holyfield) Doby. The family lived in the Rockford Township of Surry County. He was married to Cornelia “Nellie” Francis Stanley on November 26, 1916, in Rockford Township. Nellie was born on February 15, 1894, in Surry County to Weldon Stanley and Ida Joanne (Wood) Stanley. Before the 1930 Census, the family relocated to the Ruffin Township of Rockingham County, NC, and by the 1950 Census, they had relocated to Orange County, NC. Nellie passed away on December 10, 1961, in Burlington and was buried at Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery in Dobson, NC. After Nellie’s death, William remarried to Mildred Dodson. William passed away on May 27, 1966, in Mebane, NC and was also buried at Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery.

    Obituary William P. Doby, 67, of Rt. 2, Mebane, died of declining health and five week of critical illness. A retired farmer, he was a native of Surry County, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Doby. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mildred Dobson Doby of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Frank hold of Bass and Mrs. Lexie Hatch of Rt. 2, Mebane; six sons, Melvin Doby of Rt. 1, Efland, Gurney Doby, Everett Doby, Elmo Doby, Paul Doby, and Marvin Doby, all of Rt. 2, Mebane; three sisters, Mrs. John Sentell of Mebane, Mrs. Lola Edwins of Florida and Mrs. Nancy Lewis of Virginia; three brothers, Carl Doby of Cameron, Charlie Doby of Texas and Elmer Doby of Schoolfield, VIrginia; 25 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Final rites will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 1 o'clock at Walker's Funeral Home Chapel in Mebane by the Rev. James Oliver, pastor of Chestnut Ridge Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Liberty Primitive Baptist Church cemetery in Surry County. The body will remain at Walker's Funeral Home in Mebane until the service. Pallbearers will be Wayne Doby, Steve Doby, Billy Hatch, Bobby Hatch, Junior Holder and Jack Holder.
