    Biography Walter Henry Doby was born on June 1, 1899, in Surry County, North Carolina, to William Pinkney Doby and Martha (Gentry) Doby. On the 1900 and 1910 Census, he lived with his parents and siblings in Dobson Township, Surry County. He registered for the World War I Draft on September 12, 1918, in Mount Airy, Surry County, NC. He was a farmer at the time. He was married to Ollie Francis Parker on November 5, 1919, in Yadkin County, NC. Ollie was born on July 14, 1903, in North Carolina, to Joseph Washington Parker and Bettie Bethel Creed. On the 1920 Census, Walter and Ollie lived in Dobson Township, but by 1929, they had relocated to Danville, Virginia. He was employed by Dan River Mills and lived a few houses away from his eldest brother, Robert. By 1935, the family had moved back to Surry County, NC, and by the 1940 Census, they had moved to Clarksville Township, Davie County, NC. On the 1950 Census, they were living in Calahaln Township, Davie County. Walter passed away on August 11, 1965, in Statesville, Iredell County, NC. Ollie passed away on October 3, 1983, also in Statesville. Both were buried in New Home Church of Christ Cemetery in Dobson.

    Walter Henry Doby, 66, a dairy farmer of Harmony, Rt. 1, died at 10 a.m. yesterday at Iredell Memorial Hospital at Statesville. He was born in Surry County to W. P. and Martha Gentry Doby. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ollie Frances Parker Doby; five daughters, Mrs. Christine Linville of Winston-Salem, Mrs. Liston Emory of Madison, Wis., Mrs. William B. Crowson of Fairfield, Calif., Mrs. Fred Chapman of Charlotte, Mrs. Jimmy Taylor of Boonville; four sons, Ralph Dan Doby and J. D. Doby of Winston-Salem, Perry Doby of Mocksville and Garnet Doby of Cleveland; and a brother, Charlie E. Doby of Surry County. The Body is at Reavis Funeral Home pending arrangements.
