On the 1920 Census he was 3 years old and lived with his parents and siblings in Dobson, Surry County. On the 1930 Census he was 12 years old and lived with his parents and siblings in Tunstall, Pittsylvania, Virginia. He had attended school and was able to read and write. On the 1940 Census he was 22 years and lived in Burlington, Alamance County, North Carolina. His highest level of education was 7th grade. His occupation was "shipping clerk". He was married to Edna Jackson "Jackie" Davis, daughter of Colonel Swain Davis and Mary Louise (Williams) Davis, on April 27, 1940, in Alamance County. On October 16, 1940, he registered for the World War II draft in Burlington. He enlisted in the United States Army on January 15, 1944, at Camp Croft in Spartanburg, South Carolina. He was assigned to the Signal Corps and served in the United States Fifth Army during the World War II campaigns at North Apennines and PO Valley, both in Italy. His final rank was Staff Sergeant. He was discharged from the Army on January 24, 1946. He was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, the American Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. On the 1950 Census he was 32 years old and lived with his wife and children on Walker Street in Graham, Alamance County. His occupation was "shipping clerk" in the "textile supplies" industry. He passed away on May 20, 2003, in Burlington and was buried in Graham Memorial Park in Graham.

[7] Obituary Walter Franklin Edmonds, 80, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 7, 2023 at the Hospice Home surrounded by his family. He was a native of Alamance County and the husband of 54 years to Kaye Laughorne Edmonds of the home. Walter was employed with Burlington Industries for many years and retired from GKN as an electrician. He was a lifelong member of Front Street Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) where he served as an usher, deacon and handy man heading up various church construction projects. Walter was a veteran of the US Air Force serving during the Vietnam War. He was a craftsman with wood and enjoyed carving. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and spending time with family and especially his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Kaye L. Edmonds of the home; son, Harrall Edmonds and wife, Brandy of Burlington; daughter, Alina Hughes and husband, Chris of Burlington; grandchildren, Edwin Gunn and significant other, MacKenzie Causey, Avery Edmonds. Tucker Edmonds and Kadi Hughes; great grandchild, Lacey Gunn; mother, Edna Jackson Edmonds of Graham; sister, Barbara Ashley of Fuqua Varina and numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, William Hal Edmonds and his grandson, Jackson Hal Edmonds. A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. Dace Lewis, Elder Grant Range and Elder Joe Childress. The burial to follow at Alamance Memorial Park with military honors by the US Air Force. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm on Tuesday at Lowe Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
