    Biography Richard "Dick" Green Doby was born on September 9, 1892, in Surry County, North Carolina, to William Pinkney Doby and Martha (Gentry) Doby. On the 1900 and 1910 Census, he lived with his parents and siblings in Dobson Township, Surry County. He was married to Pearl Jane Griffin on August 21, 1914, by the Justice of the Peace in Dobson Township. Pearl was born on September 9, 1894, in Forsyth County, NC, to James Griffin and Mary Jane (Wolff) Griffin. Sometime before the 1940 Census, he moved the family to Jonesboro Township, Lee County, NC, and by the 1950 Census, they were living in Carthage Township, Moore County, NC. Richard passed away on May 22, 1962, from heart disease at St. Joseph Hospital in Southern Pines, Moore County. Pearl passed away on April 21, 1984, in Lillington, Harnett County, NC. Both were buried in Rocky Fork Christian Church Cemetery in Sanford, Lee County.

    Richard Green Doby, 69, of Carthage, Rt. 2, died Tuesday. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Rocky Fork Christian Church by the Rev. Eugene Curtis. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Pearl Griffin Doby; one daughter, Mrs. Creola Watkins of Carthage, Rt. 2; five sons, William V. and Floyd of Carthage, Rt. 2, James of Kernersville, Lester of Atlanta, Ga. And George of Sanford; two brothers, C. E. of Dobson, Rt. 2 and W. H. of Harmony; and nine grandchildren.
