    Biography William, better known as "Billy", was born on April 10, 1884, in Surry County, North Carolina to William Pinkney Doby and Martha A Gentry. In 1900, he was listed as 16 years old on the Census and lived with his parents and siblings in Dobson, Surry County. He was in school and was able to read and write. He married Maude Lee Fulk on January 14, 1906, in Dobson. Maude was born on December 25, 1888, in Stokes County, NC, to Columbus Hillary Fulk and Salena Adeline Isabel (Wolfe) Fulk. By the 1910 Census he was 26 years old and had 2 children (Eva and Troy). He and Maude lived Dobson. He was a farmer and they were renting their house. On September 12, 1918, he registered for the World War I draft in Surry County. He was medium height and build, had blue eyes, and black hair. On the 1920 Census he was 35 years old and lived with Maude and 5 children (Eva, Troy, Clarence, Claude, and Beulah) in Dobson. In 1930, he was listed as 45 years old on the census. He lived with Maude and 9 children (everyone but Floyd) in Dobson. He lived in Dobson his entire life, until sometime between 1933 (when Troy was born) and 1935 (when he died), when he moved the family to the Rock Creek Township, near the current intersection of Highway 70 and Rock Creek Dairy Road in Whitsett, Guilford County, North Carolina. This has not been confirmed, but it's likely that he worked on Rock Creek Dairy. That was the only place of employment anywhere near the location where they lived. Billie was described as a hard disciplinarian. It is believed that drinking and making moonshine had an impact on how he treated the children. Through the years, many people were told by their parents and/or grandparents about Billie having extremely bad hiccups for three weeks days before he died. One of the side effects of his condition was hiccups. He died from Lobar Pneumonia on March 20, 1935, in the Rock Creek Township (at home), and was buried at New Home Church of Christ Cemetery in Dobson.
