    Biography Charlie Edgar "Manny" Doby was born on March 15, 1888, in Surry County, North Carolina to William Pinkney Doby and Martha (Gentry) Doby. On the 1900-1920 Census Reports, he was living with his parents and siblings in Dobson Township, Surry County. He married Mary Etta (Badgett) Doby on October 15, 1911, at Edmons School in Dobson Township. Etta was born on March 31, 1891, in North Carolina, to Robert Sidney Badgett and Mary Alice (Marion) Badgett. Manny registered for the World War I draft on June 5, 1917, in the Dobson Precinct, Surry County. On the 1920-1940 Census Reports, he lived with his wife and children in Dobson Township. Manny passed away on January 3, 1969, in Dobson. Etta passed away on September 17, 1983, in Surry County. Both were buried at New Home Church of Christ Cemetery in Dobson.

    Charles Edgar (Mannie) Doby, 80, of Dobson, Rt. 2, died yesterday at his home. The doby is at Moody Funeral Home pending arrangements. He was born in Surry County to William and Martha Gentry Doby. He was a retired farmer. He was a deacon of the New Home Church of Christ on Dobson, Rt. 2. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Etta Badgett Doby; three sons, Alonza, Jack and George Doby of Dobson, Tr. 2; and four daughters, Mrs. Howard Matthews of East Bend, Mrs. Floyd Culler of Mount Airy, Mrs. Clifton Atkins of Dobson, Rt. 2, and Mrs. Bruce Corder of Mount Airy.
