    Biography Nancy Lula Doby was born on August 9, 1879, in Surry County, NC, to William Pinkney Doby and Martha (Gentry) Doby. From the census reports, it seems that she went by “Lula.” In 1880, the family was living in the Franklin Township of Surry County. According to the 1940 Census report, she completed the 7th grade in school. On January 28, 1895, she was married to Harden Lee Parker in Dobson, Surry County. Harden was born on April 28, 1876, in North Carolina, to James H Parker and Sarah Emily (Simpson) Parker. They were farmers and lived in Surry County for their entire life. Lula passed away on February 7, 1949, in Elkin, Surry County. Harden passed away on May 10, 1965, in Mount Airy, Surry County. Both were buried at the New Home Church of Christ Cemetery in Dobson.

    Obituary Nancy Lula Parker, 69, died at an Elkin hospital at 8 a.m. yesterday. She was born in Surry County Aug. 9, 1889, daughter of William P. and Martha Gentry Doby. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at New Home Christian Church, near Dobson. Rev. S. L. Hoffman will be in charge. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Surviving are the husband, H. L. Parker of Dobson, Route 2; three sons; Dillard Parker of Mocksville, Bill Parker of Columbia, S.C. and Walter Parker of the home; three daughters, Mrs. Rufus Pratt of Mocksville, Mrs. raymond Venable of Ararat, Mrs. Albert White of Dobson, Route 2; 17 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; the mother, Mrs. martha Doby; four brother, Walter Doby of Harmony, R.G. Doby of Carthage, R. L. Doby of Burlington, Manlay Doby fo Dobson, Route 2; a sister, Mrs. F T. Edmonds of Burlington. (Winston-Salem Journal of Winston-Salem, NC. 8 Feb 1949. Page 14.)
