    Biography George Allen Doby was born on August 15, 1929, in Rockford, Surry County, North Carolina, to Charles Edgar Doby and Mary Etta (Badgett) Doby. On the 1930 and 1940 Census Reports, he lived with his parents and siblings in Dobson Township, Surry County. He was married to Annie Ruth Hooker on 15 Sep 1948 in Stewarts Creek Township, Surry County, NC. Annie was born on September 4, 1931, in Mount Airy, Surry County, to William “Willie” Roosevelt Hooker and Gracie Olena (Simmons) Hooker. On the 1950 Census, they lived in Mount Airy, Surry County, NC. George worked in a quarry loading trucks. Annie passed away on September 8, 1996, in Winston-Salem, Forsyth County, NC, and was buried in New Home Church of Christ Cemetery in Dobson. George remarried to Bertie Mae (Inman) Eldridge. Bertie was born on May 31, 1932, in Westfield, Surry County, to Wiley Vestal Inman and Cora Mae (Hooker) Inman. George passed away on June 29, 2007, in Dobson, and was buried in New Home Church of Christ Cemetery in Dobson. Bertie passed away on August 7, 2014, in Mount Airy, Surry County, and was buried at Skyline Memory Gardens in Mount Airy.

    Mr. George Allen Doby age 77 of 3168 Simpson Mill Road, Dobson, NC husband of Mrs. Bertie Mae Inman Eldridge passed away Friday, June 29, 2007 at his home. He was born August 15, 1929 in Surry County to the late Charlie Edgar and Etta Badgett Doby. He was a retired farmer and plumber. Mr. Doby was a member of New Home Church of Christ. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Bertie Mae Inman Eldridge of the home, a daughter, Deborah Chilton, Pilot Mountain, a daughter-in-law, Elaine Doby, Siler City, NC, four step sons and wives, Mike and Sherry Eldridge, Boone, NC, Rickey and Carmen Eldridge, Mt. Airy, NC, Billy and Daphne Eldridge, Albemarle, NC, Tim and Jamie Eldridge, Mt. Airy, NC, six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, seven step grandchildren, three sisters and a brother-in-law, Jessie Matthews, East Bend, NC, Edna Corder, Mt. Airy, NC, Grace and Floyd Culler, Dobson, NC, a brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Freda Doby, Dobson, NC. In addition to his parents, Mr. Doby was preceded in death by his first wife, Annie Ruth Hooker Doby, a son, David Doby, a sister, Josie Atkins, and two brothers, Alonzo and Curvie Doby. Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, July 1, 2007 at Moody Home Chapel of Mt. Airy conducted by Bro. Tim Smith and Bro. John Snow. Burial will follow in New Home Church of Christ Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 PM Saturday June 30, 2007 at Moody Funeral Home of Mt. Airy where his body will remain until the hour of the service. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite200, Mt. Airy, NC 27030.
