    Biography Alsey was born around 1771 in Wake County, NC, to John Doby (#5) and a Native American woman. He married Mary "Polly" Sneed, in 1806 in Wake County. Polly was born around 1793 in Wake County, NC, to Robert Sharpe Snead (unknown mother). Between 1819 and 1830, Alsey and his family relocated to the area that would become Jackson Hill, Davidson County, NC, and was counted there on the 1830, 1840, 1850, and 1860 Census in Davidson County. There is no record of his or Polly's death or burial.

    A note about Alsey’s children: For the twenty-five-plus years the author has been researching the Doby family, there has been confusion about parents of the twenty-three children born to the first generation of Dobys in Rowan and Davidson County, NC in the early 1800s. Normally, this information could be found on birth and death records, but those either do not exist, or are not available to the public. The earliest record that shows this information is the 1850 Census, but most of the children were married by then and were not listed on the Census report with their parents. Recently two records have become available online that have sorted out the parents for each of these children and solved the mystery.
