    Biography Robert Lee Doby was born on August 7, 1876, in Surry County, NC to William Pinkney Doby and Martha (Gentry) Doby. He married Nancy Regina Holyfield on March 17, 1898, in Surry County. Nancy was born on May 6, 1880, in Surry County to William Daniel Holyfield and Louisa (Simpson) Holyfield. They lived in Surry County and then, before 1929 they moved to Danville, VA for work. By 1935, the family had relocated to Orange County, NC, again, for work. He passed away on July 11, 1960, in Mebane. Nancy passed away on April 9, 1951, in Mebane. They were both buried at Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery in Dobson, NC.

    Robert Lee Doby, 83, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Sentelle of Route 2, Mebane, yesterday after one week of critical illness. He was a native of Surry County. He was a retired farmer. Surviving, in addition to Mrs. Sentelle, are two other daughter, Mrs. Paul Edmonds of Apopka, Fla., and Mrs. Nancy Warner of Jetensville, Va.; four sons, William P. Doby of Mebane, Carlie Lee Doby of Cameron, James Elmer Doby of Danville, Va., and Charlie Robert Doby of Phoenix, Ariz.; three brothers, C. E. Doby of Dobson, Walter Doby of Yadkinville and Richard Doby of Moore County; 27 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Liberty Primitive Baptist Church near Pilot Mountain in Surry County. The Rev. W. M. Baker will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
