    Biography Posie Robert Doby was born on October 11, 1922, in Rockford, Surry County, NC, to Carl Lee Doby and Emma (Holder) Doby. Posie enlisted in the United States Army on December 4, 1942, at Fort Bragg, NC. He served as a Private in the United States’ 2nd Chemical Battalion. He was killed in the line of duty by some type of flying debris on February 12, 1944, and was buried at Sicily-Rome American Cemetery and Memorial in Nettuno (Sicily), Italy. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
